Community Profiling Every community should conduct a profile at least once in every five years to identify any changes or additions to their community. A profile can be very extensive, depending on the size, structure and diversity of their population and resources. A community profile enables police and community leaders to establish the need for ongoing partnerships and helps identify the approriate stakeholders in order to address crime and social disorder issues. A detailed process for community profiling is described on our website under Products and Services.
CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) - www.cptedontario.ca CPTED is the study of the environment we live and work in. Our homes offices and factories can be inviting places for criminals to do their worst. When an existing building has a CPTED assessment done, recommendations will be given to the owner on how to make the building safer, a place that criminals do not want to do their business. Lighting, shrubbery, windows (line of site), doors, and all physical characteristics of the building and area are assessed. Many communities have included CPTED assessments as part of new building permits and subdivisions. CPTED assessed areas have a significantly reduced crime rate. CPTED is a very effective Crime Prevention program – we recommend that you find out more.
Drive Wise - A partnership formed between the O.P.P.-Caledon Detachment and the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (C.A.R.P.) which is supported by Road Watch, has created a driver-education seminar designed for seniors.
Although the original target audience was set for persons 50 years of age and older, drivers of all ages can benefit from the driver education program. Created by Sgt. Bob Paterson of Caledon O.P.P., the Drive Wise presentation is a no charge presentation, delivered by O.P.P. officers across the province of Ontario.
The Drive Wise program is a shopping basket of tips, suggestions and driving strategies to be used as preventative measures against the most likely causes of collisions and mishaps faced year round by older Canadians on the road.
Drive Wise encourages seniors to take a preventative, go-slow and common sense approach to driving. The philosophy behind Drive Wise is that driver education and prevention will ensure the safety of seniors and preserve their independence as well as allowing them the privilege to continue driving as mature Canadians.
